Contamination on the surface of a soft calender roll can result in hot spots that can permanently damage the polymer coating of the calender roll. Repairing a damaged polymer coating costs hundreds of thousand dollars plus additional costs associated with paper machine downtime. Soft calendering of paper increases the smoothness of coated paper such as fine paper, copy paper and high-grade printing paperboard. Specifically designed to benefit soft-roll calendering, the SS100 Synchronized Thermal Imaging System is a complete package including an MP50 Process Imager, DataTemp SS100 Software. The SS100 System is surprisingly easy to use and features a “point and click” user-interface. Pre-wired cables and connectors allow for fast installation and connection to a standard PC (customer supplied) running Windows NT or Windows 2000.
